Is Laser Hair Removal Safe During Pregnancy or While Trying to Conceive?

This is genuinely one of the questions I get asked the most, so I wanted to write something properly helpful rather than just a quick answer — because in my experience, it’s rarely as black and white as “stop everything.”

Short answer: If you’re currently pregnant, we pause treatment as a precaution. If you’re trying to conceive, you absolutely don’t need to put your treatment on hold completely — in fact, I’d actively encourage you not to stop altogether. You can keep having sessions right up until you get your positive result, and still see amazing results in the meantime. If you’d like to talk it through first, you’re always welcome to call me or message me on WhatsApp.

Can you get laser hair removal while pregnant?

As a precaution, we pause treatment for clients who are currently pregnant. This isn’t because laser hair removal has been shown to cause harm — the laser targets hair follicles at a very surface level and doesn’t reach the bloodstream or affect the baby. It’s simply that there isn’t enough dedicated research specific to pregnancy, so we always take the cautious route.

A few other sensible reasons clinics pause treatment during pregnancy:

  • Hormonal changes affect hair growth and skin sensitivity. Pregnancy hormones can make hair grow differently and skin more reactive, which can affect how well treatment works and how comfortable it is.

So, is laser hair removal safe during pregnancy? There’s no confirmed evidence that it’s unsafe, but because of the lack of dedicated research and the skin and hormonal changes pregnancy brings, we recommend pausing treatment until after your baby is born. This is a precaution rather than a proven risk, but at 369 Laser Clinics we always prioritise safety first.

Can I do laser hair removal while trying to conceive?

laser hair removal conceiveYes. In my experience, this is completely fine, and I’d genuinely encourage you to keep going rather than stop altogether. Laser hair removal is generally considered safe to continue while you’re trying to conceive, and there’s no evidence it affects fertility, hormones, or your chances of getting pregnant.

Honestly, this is such a common situation for my clients. I have plenty of clients who’ve come to me while actively trying to conceive, and gone on to complete a full course of sessions with genuinely amazing, lasting results — all while trying for a baby at the same time. Curious what those results tend to look like? There’s no need to put your treatment plan on hold just because you’re in that stage of life, and you don’t need to pause your sessions just because you’re TTC (trying to conceive) either. Keep having your sessions as normal, and if you do get your positive result partway through, simply let me know and we’ll pause from there.

My honest advice? Keep going. Even if you end up pausing later on, having some sessions in now still gives you real, visible results — it’s never “all or nothing.” Every session builds on the last, so getting even a few in before any pause is genuinely worth it. Of course, every person’s situation is different, especially if you have any underlying conditions or concerns specific to you. That’s exactly why I always recommend a quick chat first, just so we can talk it through together.

What happens if I get laser hair removal and then find out I’m pregnant?

This happens more often than you’d think, and it’s genuinely nothing to worry about. As soon as you find out, just let me know and we’ll simply pause your remaining sessions until after your pregnancy.

laser hair removal pregnancyI’ve had so many clients pause partway through their course, go on to have their baby, and then come back afterwards to pick up exactly where they left off. Their remaining sessions and any package balance are always held for them — nothing is lost, and the results they’d already built up are still there waiting to continue. It really is a “pause, not stop” situation.

Can I have a patch test if I’m trying to conceive?

Yes. A patch test is a small, safe way to check how your skin responds to the laser before starting full sessions, and it’s something we always recommend regardless of your circumstances. If you have any questions or concerns, this is a great time to raise them with us directly — you can call us, email us, or message us on WhatsApp.

Is laser hair removal safe while breastfeeding?

Many clients continue treatment while breastfeeding, avoiding the breast and chest area. As always, if you have any concerns, have a chat with me first or check with your GP or midwife.
